Lesedi COVID-19 cases reach 100
The Lesedi Local Municipality now has 100 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The numbers were revealed in the Gauteng provincial statistics as of Sunday (June 21).
Exactly seven days ago, the municipality only had 42 cases. Most cases are believed to be from the highly populated areas like Ratanda townshipsl and Heidelberg.
“Gauteng has entered a new period in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic is gaining momentum,” said Premier David Makhura.
According to the Provincial Command Council, cases in Gauteng have doubled with hospital admissions at a record high.
The premier has called for significant behavior changes among residents. This can be done by ensuring people wear masks, sanitize and observe social distancing.
Compared to other municipalities in the Sedibeng District, Emfuleni has the highest number of cases (474) and Midvaal ranked lowest at 54.
To date, only 10 people have since recovered in municipality.
Latest Provincial results
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gauteng as of 21 June 2020 sits at 20 822, with 5306 recoveries and 122 deaths.
Out of a total of 22 576 contacts traced (these are individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for COVID-19); 15 119 people have completed the 14 days
monitoring period with no symptoms reported and therefore they are de-isolated.
A total number of 882 people are currently hospitalized in the public and private facility
