Lesedi COVID-19 cases now over 150
The Lesedi Local Municipality in Gauteng has now joined other regions in the province which have seen a dramatic growth in positive COVID-19 cases recently.
In the past seven days, the areas has added 53 new infections taking the total to 153.
Recoveries in Lesedi are still at 10.
Emfuleni COVID-19 epicenter
Also seeing a spike in New infections is the Emfuleni Local Municipality, which is the most populated in the Sedibeng District.
The area has over 315 new cases recorded over the past seven days.
Steadily rising and over 100 cases is the Midvaal Municipality.
Surprisingly, no new recoveries have been recorded in the district so far.
Surge in numbers expected
Speaking on behalf of the Gauteng Department of Health, spokesperson Kwara Kekana says current surge of COVID-19 cases we are experiencing in Gauteng is expected.
“Increased movement and mobility of people is one of the contributing factors of the rise in number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
We continue to observe cluster outbreaks from gatherings. We once again wish to caution the people of Gauteng to remain extra careful
when attending and organizing sanctioned gatherings as per the regulations,” she said.
According to the Provincial Command Council, the numbers will continue to increase as we head towards the peak.
“Let us adhere to the regulations and continue practicing the golden rules of social distancing, hand hygiene and good cough etiquette,” said the department.
