On Tuesday,18 February, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Drug Enforcement Unit Team (EMPD DEU) arrested five male and female suspects around Nigel. All were found with narcotics and were arrested during an anti-drugs operation.
“At 10:30 on Buxton street, a male and the female couple, who are 23 and 25 years of age were nabbed. This is after officers uncovered one ziplock bag of khat, three pieces of rock and four ziplocks of crystal meth valued at R1500,” said the EMPD Spokesperson, Kobeli Mokheseng.
Later during the operation, police went to Alra Park (Springbok Road). This is where they discovered a group of youngsters carrying six pieces of rock, 20 dagga pokes, 24 ziplocks of crystal meth, 27 half and full mandrax tablets valued at R9625 with R499 cash. Three males and a female suspects were handcuffed after the body search was conducted.
“All five arrested suspects are facing charges of possession and dealing in illicit substance/s, at the Nigel police station and they are expected to appear in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon,” confirmed Mokheseng.
