Bafana and Egypt to face off in mouth-watering group stage match

Bafana Bafana and Egypt will face off in the headline act of the group stages at the 2025 African Cup Of Nation (AFCON) after the draw for the tournament was made in Rabat, Morocco on Monday, January 27.

Group B is undoubtedly the most intriguing, with Bafana alongside seven-time champions Egypt joined by neighbours Zimbabwe, as well as Angola.

The AFCON bronze medalists qualified for the 2025 tournament after finishing Group K undefeated and perched at the summit last year, with many observers insisting that they have become one of the toughest and most difficult teams to play against on the continent.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, Bafana Bafana assistant coach Helman Mkhalele and Team Manager Vincent Tseka attended the highly anticipated draw.

A victory in Rabat, Morocco would place Broos alongside Clive Barker, who guided Bafana Bafana to their maiden major silverware in 1996.

The Qualifying Stages for the AFCON were completed in December last year, with countries having about 10 months to prepare before AFCON kick-off.

The continental tournament will take place in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, with Bafana Bafana starting their campaign against Angola (see fixtures below).
