Banyana faces Burkina Faso in WAFCON qualifiers
The South African national women’s football squad have landed in Côte d’Ivoire for the away leg of the final round of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier (WAFCON) against Burkina Faso.
The first match is expected to take place on Thursday, November 30 (6pm CAT) at the capital city’s Stade Charles Konan Banny.
Coach Desiree Ellis’ charges face the West Africans in back-to-back qualifying matches, with the first leg being played away from home and the second leg a few days later at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane on Monday, December 4 (kick off is at 15h00).
Janine Van Wyk is set to feature in the matches and possibly marking her 185th record appearance, which makes her the most capped player in Africa (male or female).
This will be the last fixture for Banyana Banyana in 2023, and the team will return to action in February 2024 to continue with their 2024 Olympic qualifiers.
Banyana Banyana had a successful year as they made history at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup by becoming the first ever South African senior national team to make it to the knockout stages of a FIFA tournament.
