Brink is the new mayor of Tshwane

The Democratic Alliance (DA) Councillor Cilliers Brink has been elected the new executive mayor for the capital city of South Africa.

On Tuesday, March 28, the City of Tshwane Council held a meeting to decide their leader after the resignation of Dr. Murunwa Makwarela earlier this month.

In the voting resulted in the DA getting 109 councillors in their favor compared to the Congress of the People (COPE) who had 102.

In his acceptance speech, Mayor Brink as expressed his gratitude for being selected into the metro’s top job.

“Nothing that has happened in our city’s politics, or in this council chamber, can take all away the honour of serving the people of Tshwane through this this office,” he said in his aacceptance speech.

With the Democratic Alliance coming out in top, it is expected that the party will start restoring its multi-party coalition that was established after the previous local government elections.
