The Democratic Alliance (DA) party has launched a dedicated WhatsApp number (067 977 9324) and email address (email@example.com) where members of the public can report any acts of assault, abuse or bribery by law enforcement officers.
This was done in response to the recent incidents of soldiers and police officers assaulting civilians during the national lockdown period in the country.
The party says the communication lines can also be used to send the DA their questions regarding their legal rights during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“We will use these platforms to advise citizens on their rights and to raise and lodge their complaints with the relevant authorities and oversight bodies,”said the party’s interim leader John Steenhuizen.
The party previously called for an investigation into incidents of assault by the law enforcement officers for their ‘heavy handedness.’
