EFF calls for arrests after truck explosion

The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) has called for the immediate arrest of the Infinite Group CEO, which is the logistics company that the truck that caused the explosion in Plantation, Boksburg on Saturday morning (December 24).

The explosion, which appears to be caused by the compression of a gas-tanker under the low-lying bridge has reportedly thus far claimed the lives of 10 people, injured firefighters and cilivilians, whilst damaging surrounding infrastructure including the nearby O.R Tambo Memorial Hospital.

In a media statement released shortly after the unfortunate incident, the party said authorities must not treat the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) as a bystander.

“Countless tragedies on our roads are a result of the transportation of goods, particularly minerals by trucks over long distances, and that a gas-tanker got stuck under a bridge confirms that South African roads and infrastructure are not suitable for the transportation of hazardous substances in civilian areas.”

“The unprecedented explosion has traumatisedthe people of Boksburg andthe nationat large, with horrifying scenes of bodies strewn across the area and victims of severe burns needing urgent medical attention. This explosion reaffirms the call by the EFF to improve South Africa’s railway infrastructure to avoid the over-burdening presence of trucks on our roads,” said the party.

The statement further indicated that failure to arrest the company CEO before end of the day will undermine any effort to hold the company accountable.
