Ekurhuleni approves adjustment budget

The City Of Ekurhuleni Council held an extra-ordinary council meeting on Tuesday (February 28) and have approved the Adjustment Budget, which was voted down a week earlier.

Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Economic Development, Finance & ICT Councillor Fanyana Nkosi has expressed his delight after the Adjustment Budget was approved.

“After a month of political grandstanding, the much-needed adjustment budget was passed in council. This adjustment budget will be realigning the city’s finances to give expression to the needs of residents on the ground,” he said.

In efforts to address the waste backlog in the City, MMC Nkosi said that 36 waste compactor had to be hired.

“With the passing of this adjustment budget, we are now in a position to purchase waste compactors outright to replace our aging in-house fleet,” explained MMC Nkosi.

Recently, the MMC for Environment and Waste Management Cllr Brandon Pretorius is leading a waste collection blitz around the City.

“I would like to apologize to residents the unfortunate situation we have found ourselves in, but I am confident that we will now turn the tide on this matter,” Cllr Pretorius confirmed.

Other major service delivery challenge faced by the metro include the roads which have been badly affected by recent rains and are now full of potholes.

In some areas, grass cutting has been delayed and will soon commence. This also includes but is not limited to – the clean-up of our cemeteries, inner-cities, and townships.

“It is unfortunate that certain political parties who chose to put their narrow interests ahead of residents have delayed this process by over a month hindering the roll out of services,” said Nkosi.

The multi-party coalition, led by Alderwoman Tania Campbell, say that they remain committed to ensuring that all residents receive service delivery.
