Ekurhuleni Employees Arrested for Alleged Theft of Municipal TLB

Two employees of the City of Ekurhuleni have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of a municipal Tractor-Loader-Backhoe (TLB) machine, which was unlawfully removed from a Brakpan Roads depot in December 2024.

According to city officials, the TLB was taken without authorization and allegedly used for private work in Vosloorus. Following a preliminary investigation, law enforcement officers apprehended the two employees in Brakpan earlier today.

“We cannot allow such thuggery to persist in our space without consequences. We are here to serve the community, and this is public money that we must protect and ensure that whatever infrastructure we purchased with public funds serves our people,” said MMC for Roads and Transport Management, Councillor Andile Mngwevu.

Mngwevu emphasized that the city would not tolerate corruption and that legal action would be taken against those responsible.

“When you steal from us, we open a case, and the police must do the arrest. We do not subscribe to such things, so the law must take its course. It is our sincere hope that the thugs are brought to book and dealt with accordingly,” he added.

The City of Ekurhuleni has opened a case with the Brakpan police. Efforts are underway to recover the missing machinery and hold everyone accountable.

Residents and city employees are urged to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies to help curb municipal corruption.
