Eskom return to Stage 6 loadshedding

After weeks of having no loadshedding during the daytime and reduced stages overnight, Eskom has resorted back to implementing power cuts all day.

“Due to the loss of additional generating units overnight, the extensive use of Open Gas Cycle Turbines and the inability to replenish pumped storage dam levels, Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented at 07:00 this morning until 14:00.  Thereafter, Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from 14:00 today until 05:00 on Thursday,” Eskom announced on Wednesday, July 12.

This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice.

After the week began with a very cold weather across the country, the state-owned power provider started implementing Stage 4 Loadshedding from the daytime hours, ending the relief that most South Africans have been enjoying for some time due to stability in the nation’s power grid.

The power utility will publish more updates as soon as any significant changes occur.

“We plead with the public to  switch off non-essential appliances to reduce the demand,” Eskom said.
