Flight delays at OR Tambo Airport explained

The Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) have confirmed that the delays in flights at the OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday, December 28, were due to technical issues and not a shortage of fuel.

The entity met with Transport minister Fikile Mbalula and explained that the airport has enought fuel and does not have fuel shortage.

The challenge was a technical faul experiencing from the fuel shortage facility to the main hydrant systems; this impacting on refuelling aircrafts.

“This matter has since been resolved by technicians who are on-site monitoriing the situtation with flights expeccted to return to normal scheduling,” Transport spokesperson Lwazi Khoza said.

Minister Fikile Mbalula extends sincere apologies to travellers who were inconvenienced by this situtation on their commute.

Minister Mbalula has also urged ACSA Management to be more proactive on their communications when such incidents occur which inconvenience travellers.
