Foreign National Arrested with Military Explosives in Malvern East

A 33-year-old foreign national has been arrested after police discovered military-grade explosives, including a bazooka and ammunition, at a house in Malvern East, within the Ekurhuleni District.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mawela Masondo, members of the Anti-Gang Unit acted on intelligence indicating that a man was in possession of explosives.

“Anti-Gang Unit members received information regarding a man who was in possession of explosives,” said Masondo.

Following the tip-off, police conducted a targeted operation and moved in on the identified residence. During the operation, officers found the suspect in possession of military explosives, including a bazooka and its ammunition.

The suspect was immediately arrested, and the explosives were seized for further investigation. Police have not disclosed the origin of the weapons or whether they were intended for criminal activity, as investigations are still ongoing.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Gauteng to curb the circulation of illegal firearms and explosives, which pose a serious threat to public safety.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court in due course, where he will face charges related to the possession of military explosives. Police have indicated that additional charges may be added as investigations continue.
