Four Suspects Arrested for Student Kidnapping
In a coordinated law enforcement effort, four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the kidnapping of a 20-year-old student from Lenasia, authorities announced on Wednesday, March 26.
The arrest was the result of an intricate collaborative operation involving multiple law enforcement units, including the SAPS Anti-Kidnapping Unit, SAPS Crime Intelligence, SAPS Highway Patrol, and the Johannesburg Flying Squad.
According to Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the investigation began after a kidnapping was reported on 18 March 2025.
Initial reports identified a white Volkswagen Amarok as the vehicle used in the crime, which was also linked to an attempted kidnapping on 1 March 2025.
Investigators conducted meticulous intelligence gathering, ultimately identifying the suspects and locating the vehicle in a residential parking area in Sandton. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in confirming the suspects’ involvement, leading to additional arrests in Elandsfontein and Lenasia.
In a significant development, the recovered Volkswagen Amarok was traced to a hijacking reported in Durban Central, KwaZulu-Natal in January 2025.
