Gauteng Legislature Speaker Official Visit Strengthens Ties with China’s Consulate General in Johannesburg

On August 23, the Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honorable Morakane Mosupyoe, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to meet with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Johannesburg, Mr. Pan Qingjiang.

The meeting aimed to reinforce the longstanding relationship between Gauteng and China, focusing on building mutual understanding and trust.

Honorable Mosupyoe highlighted that establishing a foundation of trust between the two regions is vital for strengthening their relationship.

“It is through such trust that we can formalize our relations and build a future where our two regions work hand in hand for the betterment of our people,” she stated.

The visit also underscored the potential for greater collaboration in governance, economic development, and cultural exchange.

The recent visit also coincides with the upcoming Official State Visit by President Cyril Ramaphosa to the People’s Republic of China in September.

By fostering closer ties, both Gauteng and China aim to explore new avenues for partnership, benefiting the citizens of both regions.

South Africa and China share a deep-rooted relationship, strengthened by their participation in multilateral forums such as BRICS and various bilateral agreements. These diplomatic ties have translated into significant economic and cultural exchanges over the years.

This meeting represents another step toward enhancing cooperation between the Gauteng region and China, reflecting the broader national relationship between the two nations.

As China remains one of South Africa’s largest trade partners, these discussions are crucial in promoting further economic growth and development in both regions.
