Gauteng Open Funding Window for Non-Profit Organizations
The Gauteng Department of Social Development has launched its annual call for proposals, inviting qualifying non-profit organizations (NPOs) across the province to apply for funding support in the upcoming financial year.
The Department announced that funding applications are now open for the 2026/2027 financial year, with a focus on strengthening service delivery in communities across Gauteng’s five corridors.
The initiative aims to promote welfare and development in line with departmental mandates and relevant policy frameworks.
Key Funding Areas
The funding opportunity covers two main service categories:
Social Welfare Services will receive priority funding for substance abuse prevention and treatment, family care and support programs, HIV and AIDS prevention services, and partial care for children.
The Department is particularly seeking proposals for drop-in centers, home and community-based care organizations, and after-school care programs in under-resourced areas.
Child protection services, youth care centers, crime prevention programs, and victim empowerment services are also prioritized. Special attention will be given to gender-based violence prevention programs, LGBTIQA+ support services, and assistance for homeless populations and older persons.
Community Development Services will focus on the Welfare to Work Program, designed to transition citizens from social protection to financial independence through skills development and entrepreneurship. The Department has indicated preference for manufacturing-focused projects with high job creation potential.
Youth development programs, food distribution centers, and community nutrition centers are also eligible for funding support.
Strict Eligibility Requirements
Organizations must meet comprehensive eligibility criteria to qualify for consideration. All NPOs must be registered under the NPO Act 71 of 1997 and demonstrate full compliance with legislative requirements.
Governing bodies must comprise at least five members, including a chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, and treasurer. Organizations must provide vetting documentation showing all officials have been screened against the National Sex Offenders Register and Child Protection Register.
The Department emphasized that organizations with a history of financial mismanagement or those under state investigation will not be considered for funding.
Application Process
Interested organizations must apply online through the Department’s portal at https://gdsdgrantorexternal.gauteng.gov.za/ before the October 15, 2025 midnight deadline.
Applications experiencing technical difficulties may submit proposals via email to NPOApplications.Socdev@gauteng.gov.za. The Department has made it clear that late or hand-delivered applications will not be accepted.
Supporting documentation must include NPO certificates, compliance letters, program registration certificates, and declarations of family members within the Department from governing body members.
The Gauteng Department of Social Development has retained the right to determine final funding amounts, which may be less than requested amounts.
The Department may also decline applications that do not meet all eligibility criteria or align with departmental priorities.
