Lesedi MMC tests positive for COVID-19

A Member of the Mayoral Committee in the Lesedi Local Municipality has tested positive for the Coronavirus.

According to a statement released by the executive mayor, Lerato Maloka, the MMC for Infrastructure Services Ms Mapule Motsepe recently received her results confirming the diagnosis.

“As a public representative, the MMC has been part of and involved in ensuring that the municipality and its surrounding areas meets its health infrastructure needs in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.”

The mayor also stated that MMC Motsepe will be self-quarantined.

State of affairs in the municipality

Despite the mayor assuring citizens that the municipality is doing all it can to curb the spread, cases are growing at an alarming rate.

Over 400 cases have been confirmed in the area according to the Gauteng Health Department’s sub-district results.

So far, only two confirmed cases have been found in the Lesedi Municipality. An administrative worker at the licensing department also tested positive. The municipal building remains closed for deep cleansing and fumigation services have been rendered.
