Lightning strikes tree killing woman

On Wednesday night, December 28, a 37 year old woman was tragically killed in an accident involving a falling tree at Freedom Park extension 3 in Villa Liza, near Boksburg.

According to reports, the tree had been struck by lightning and fell on the woman while she was inside a mobile ablution toilet.

Some informal settlement nearby were also damaged during the thunderstorms.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene confirmed the woman’s death.

Rescue crews were called to the scene to remove the tree brush and recover the woman’s body. The incident has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.
