Local businesses invited to 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo
The 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) is set to take place from June 12-15, 2025, in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, China.
This biennial event continues to serve as a vital platform for fostering economic collaboration, trade partnerships, and cultural exchange between China and African nations.
With each iteration, the Expo has grown in scale and significance, reflecting the deepening relationship between the two regions amidst a rapidly evolving global economic landscape.
Since its inception in 2019, CAETE has been a cornerstone of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), a framework established to enhance mutual development goals.
Hosted in Changsha—a city known for its industrial prowess and historical ties to trade—the Expo brings together government officials, business leaders, and entrepreneurs from across Africa and China.
This year’s event promises to build on the successes of previous expos, which have facilitated billions of dollars in trade deals, infrastructure projects, and investment agreements.

What to look forward to this year
The 2025 Expo arrives at a pivotal moment.
As the world recovers from economic disruptions caused by the pandemic and navigates geopolitical tensions, China and Africa are increasingly looking to each other as reliable partners. China remains Africa’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding $250 billion annually in recent years.
African nations, rich in natural resources and emerging markets, offer vast opportunities for Chinese enterprises, while China provides Africa with critical infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing expertise.
The Expo will spotlight these synergies, showcasing sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, digital technology, and manufacturing.
This year’s theme is yet to be officially announced, but past themes like “Win-Win Cooperation” and “New Opportunities for China-Africa Partnership” suggest a focus on sustainable growth and innovation.
Attendees can expect a packed schedule of exhibitions, forums, and matchmaking sessions designed to connect businesses with tangible opportunities. High-tech displays, including advancements in artificial intelligence and green energy solutions, are likely to feature prominently, reflecting China’s push toward cutting-edge industries.
For African participants, the Expo offers a chance to promote their own products—ranging from coffee and textiles to minerals and handicrafts—to the vast Chinese market.
Changsha itself adds a unique flavor to the event. Known for its spicy cuisine and as the hometown of Mao Zedong, the city blends tradition with modernity. Its strategic location in central China and robust transportation links make it an ideal hub for international trade gatherings.
Local authorities have invested heavily in infrastructure to accommodate the influx of visitors, ensuring the Expo runs smoothly while showcasing Hunan’s economic dynamism.
The 4th CAETE is more than a trade fair; it’s a symbol of a partnership that has reshaped global economics. Critics, however, often point to concerns about debt sustainability and trade imbalances in China-Africa relations.
The Expo provides a platform to address these issues through dialogue and transparency, aiming for a balanced and mutually beneficial relationship.
As June approaches, all eyes will be on Changsha, where the next chapter of this enduring collaboration will unfold, promising new opportunities and shared prosperity for both China and Africa.
