Local Talent Showcased at Inaugural National Boxing Championship

The Inaugural National Boxing Championship (NBC) KO Festival made its debut in Parktown on Friday, March 28, bringing together top boxing talent from across the province in what organizers and fans alike are calling an electrifying display of combat sports excellence.

Among the evening’s most anticipated matchups was the bout featuring Themba Motau from Ratanda in the Lesedi Municipality, who faced Lucky Nyembezi in a contest that ended in a draw after both fighters demonstrated remarkable skill and endurance.

Motau, trained by Lucky Dlamini of Lucky D Boxing Club in Ratanda, represented his township with pride. Following the match, Dlamini expressed gratitude toward the event’s organizers and sponsors.

“Thank you to the sponsors and the promotion of this unique event,” said Dlamini. “Most importantly, thanks to matchmaker Mr. Abbeys Mnisi for giving our boys a chance to grow.”

The coach also acknowledged the support from their hometown, adding, “To our people at home, family and friends in Ratanda, Siyabonga for your messages of encouragement. This championship is going to be exciting going forward.”

The NBC KO Festival marks the beginning of what organizers hope will become a significant platform for boxing talent development in South Africa, particularly highlighting fighters from townships and underrepresented communities.
