Local Sports Development Programme Concludes with Remarkable Success

The transformative T.Day Programme reached its successful conclusion today, marking the end of a six-month journey that has left an indelible mark on the local sports community at Khanya Lesedi SOS.

The programme’s primary focus was empowering young aspiring coaches through advanced training, mentorship, and essential resources. This comprehensive approach aimed to equip coaches with the skills necessary to effectively nurture both athletes and learners in their community.

The closing ceremony on Monday (June 30) brought together key figures who have championed the initiative from its inception. Lesedi Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Mluleki Nkosi, who was present at both the launch and conclusion of the programme, joined local sporting legend Khotso Mokoena and former Banyana Banyana Captain Portia Modise in celebrating the remarkable achievements of participants.

“The programme tries to create a legacy outside their community and make a name for themselves beyond Ratanda,” said Pretty Kekana, speaking on behalf of Vopak WeConnect, the initiative’s key partner.

Throughout the six-month period, the T.Day Programme adopted a holistic approach to athlete development, creating a supportive environment that enabled participants to excel not only in sports but also in personal growth. This peer-to-peer motivation system has inspired young athletes to become role models within their communities.

Programme founder Khotso Mokoena expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders during the award ceremony. “I want to thank the school for going beyond the extra mile in making the programme a success despite administrative challenges,” he said. “I also send my gratitude to the young participants who also had their fair share of challenges and commend their perseverance throughout the six-month programme.”

The programme’s impact extends beyond local boundaries, with notable achievements already emerging. Bontle Lokone, one of the programme’s beneficiaries, received a scholarship to study at the University of Johannesburg. She was also selected as one of two Khanya Lesedi Secondary School learners to join 130 other athletes from Gauteng to compete at the TriColor Games in Italy two years ago.

The collaborative effort between Tday Foundation, Vopak WeConnect, and Khanya Lesedi SOS has demonstrated the power of sports to unite communities and promote excellence. Through this initiative, the programme has created a lasting impact that will continue to inspire future generations of athletes and coaches in Ratanda.

As the programme concludes, its legacy of unity, excellence, and community development through sports remains a testament to what can be achieved when organizations and individuals work together toward a common goal.
