MEC Chiloane grieves the loss of sports stars

The Gauteng Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC, Matome Chiloane, expresses deep sorrow at the passing of football legend Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala. Tshabalala, a revered figure in South African football, succumbed to his injuries on July 11, at the age of 75, following a brave battle against injuries sustained during a home robbery in March.

Says MEC Chiloane; “I have learnt with shock and sadness of the passing of the legendary, visionary and leader of the beautiful game of football. Bra Stan is arguably the pioneer who implanted the DNA of Mamelodi Sundowns’s play with his ‘piano and shoeshine’ football philosophy.

“His immense impact on the sport, particularly his influence on Mamelodi Sundowns and his significant involvement with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates Football Clubs will live for long. He was a storyteller of note and his tales of football will be remembered forever.

Bra Stan is one of the founding members of Kaizer Chiefs and was a player and later a scout for the team. He moved to Sundowns where he achieved much success as a coach. At the time of his passing, he was Technical Director at Orlando Pirates.”

In the same breath, MEC Chiloane has conveyed his condolences on the tragic passing of Ogopoleng Modise, a dedicated road runner from Tshwane, who was brutally killed by stabbing while jogging in KZN on July 6.

“We are also sad to hear of the passing of Ogopoleng Modise, the marathon runner who was killed whilst jogging. His death is another sad reminder of the levels of criminality affecting us whether in the streets and inside our homes. We urge the law enforcement to vigorously pursue justice in both cases.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the two families during this trying period. May you find love, strength and healing and may the souls of Bra Stan and Orapeleng rest in eternal peace”; says MEC Chiloane.
