According to the Health Department the cumulative number of detected COVID-19 cases is 661 936 with 725 new cases identified on Monday, September 21.
Provincially, Gauteng still leads the number of cases at 217485. This is followed by the Western Cape at 109526 and Eastern Cape (88205). The lowest number is recorded in Limpopo, accounting for only 2,2% of total cases recorded at 14721.
“Regrettably, we report 39 more COVID-19 related deaths: 9 from Eastern Cape 1 from KwaZulu-Natal, 9 from Gauteng, 16 from North West and 4 from Western Cape. We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients,” said the minister Dr Zweli Mkhize.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 15 992, expected that the number will reach the 16,000 mark soon.
Testing data recorded
South Africa’s current recoveries now stand at 591 208 which translates to a recovery rate of 89,3%.
