Mzansi COVID-19 deaths now over 90 thousand

The death toll from COVID-19 in South Africa has officially surpassed 90 000, with 27 more individuals succumbing to the illness on Tuesday, December 7.

With the recent deaths announced, the overall number of deaths now stands at 90 002.

With 8 445 new cases recorded, Gauteng remains the epicenter.

It is followed by 1 396 instances in KwaZulu-Natal, 805 in the Western Cape, and 720 in the North West, for a positive rate of 24.9 percent.

Since the epidemic, there have been 3 051 222 cases reported.

In addition, since the last reporting cycle, 140 281 vaccine doses have been delivered, with 29 965 of these going to children.

The total is 26 639 293, with 14 908 420 fully jabbed adults accounting for 37.2 percent of the population.

Meanwhile, the number of adolescents who have received the Pfizer vaccine for the first time has risen to 652 197.
