New committee for Sedibeng Sports Confederation
On 22 Feb 2021 by MapepezaLeaders from different sporting fields were convened in a meeting called by the Gauteng Sports Confederation (GSC) to give birth to a new Sedibeng Sports Confederation interim committee.
The meeting took place in Vereeniging’s President Park on February 17.
“Sedibeng has for the past four years been lacking committed and knowledgable sports administrators. This vacuum has led to dwindling facilities and sport activism in the area,” said Isaac Khithika.
However, according to Khithika, due to the intervention of the GSC, there is a glimmer of hope for the troubled sporting body.
Sedibeng has now an interim committee which headed by Mr Xolani Mathumbo, who is also the convenor.
Fakazile Nkitseng was appointed as the coordinator, including eight additional members coming from all corners of the region.
This interim leadership is tasked with ensuring smooth running of sporting activities endorsed by government across all sporting codes and ensure structures of sport are built and functioning properly, amongst other mandates.
Formerly known as the Sedibeng Sports Council, the rebranded Sedibeng Sports Confederation was established in 2018.
The organization is a regional body under the Gauteng Sports Confederation, made up of leaders from sports associations and federation across all three municipalities in Sedibeng.
It is led by President Thabo Disco Phadime, along with two vice presidents and a diverse group of local sport administrators.
