Organizations Boost School Sports with Millions

The Kay Motsepe Schools Championship and ABC Motsepe SA Schools Choral Eisteddfod are set to make a comeback, energizing school sports across South Africa.

With over 10,000 schools participating annually and prize money totaling R11,750,000, these competitions represent the largest school sports events in the country.

At a media event on July 29, held at Sanlam’s office in Sandton, the focus was on how these initiatives support youth development through sports and culture.

Prominent figures, including Dr. Patrice Motsepe, Founder of the Motsepe Foundation, and Bongani Madikiza, CEO of Sanlam Retail Mass, shared insights into the impact of these events.

“The campaign represents far more than just a sporting tournament and a musical competition,” said Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

Sanlam’s Bongani Madikiza added, “At Sanlam, our purpose is to empower communities to be financially confident, secure, and prosperous. Our partnership with the Motsepe Foundation on these initiatives demonstrates our commitment to making a positive impact by helping the youth develop necessary skills for future success.”

The campaign kicks off with the Eisteddfod National Choir Clash from August 7-10 in Gauteng, followed by the Netball National Finals from August 15-17 in North West, and the Football National Finals in October, providing a grand stage for young talents to shine.

The event also featured contributions from sports personalities like television presenter Andile Ncube, former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana, and former SPAR Proteas player Tshina Mdau, who shared their experiences and highlighted the importance of sports in personal and community development.
