Pastor Mboro in court following school incident
Local Prophet, His Son, and Bodyguard Appear in Court
Self-proclaimed prophet Paseka Motsoeneng (56), also known as Pastor Mboro, appeared in court alongside his bodyguard, Vincent Baloyi, and his son, Revival Motsoeneng, on charges related to an incident at Matsediso Primary School on August 5.
In a viral video, the three accused were seen brandishing dangerous weapons before allegedly forcefully removing two learners from the school premises.
They face a string of charges, including kidnapping, possession of dangerous weapons and unlicensed firearms, possession of a prohibited firearm, assault by way of threat, pointing of firearms, discharging of a firearm, and malicious damage to property.
The trio has been remanded in custody until August 16, for the state to prepare for the bail hearing and finalize investigations.
This preparation includes profiling the accused and gathering other relevant information for the bail hearing.
More cases opened
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has also received three additional dockets related to the same incident, where the Motsoenengs are the complainants against the maternal family of the children.
Pastor Mboro has filed a complaint of common assault against the uncle and grandmother of the children, alleging that he was assaulted at the school while addressing his son’s complaint.
According to Pastor Mboro, he was not allowed to leave the school with his children after attempting to collect them.
Another docket involves a complaint by Mboro’s son, Revival, who alleges that he was assaulted by the grandmother of his children when he went to fetch them from the school.
The final docket pertains to an assault charge laid by the Station Commander of Katlehong North Police, against the children’s uncle. The Station Commander claims he was attacked by the uncle at the police station during the altercation between the parties involved.
“The state did not enroll the case wherein Mboro’s son is a complainant, pending further investigations,” stated Phindi Mjonondwane, NPA spokesperson for the Gauteng Division in Johannesburg.
“Both the grandmother and the uncle will be back in court on September 10 and were each released on R1000 bail.”
The case continues to unfold as authorities seek to bring clarity and justice to the complex situation involving multiple parties and charges.
GPL committee condemns incident
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has called on Law Enforcement Authorities to act decisively when dealing with the case.
According to the Chairperson, Honorable Bandile Masuku, the Committee is appalled by the conduct of Mboro who as a “Pastor” is expected to be displaying the highest ethical and moral standards in society.
“The Committee unequivocally condemn any form of violence especially when perpetrated by individuals in positions of trust and spiritual leadership.
No form of action can justify the violent actions of Mboro particularly in a schooling environment where children are expected to be taught in a safe and secure setting,” Masuku stated.
