Police in search of Katlehong tarven shooters

Katlehong Police are investigating two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder that took place at Kwanele section on late Friday, July 8, whereby two victims were left dead and four others injured by unknown suspects.

“It is alleged that four unknown black males entered the tavern at Kwanele, one with a firearm in his possession. One started firing shoots at the direction of patriots who were inside the tavern. They then ordered everyone inside to produce their valuables like cellphones and other portable items, thereafter they fired shots again evading the scene at unknown direction,” explains Katlehong police spokesperson Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa.

As a result, six people were shot, with two of them dying instantly on the scene and the wounded four were rushed to hospital. Police found about 19 cartridges as well as 13 live ammunition at the scene.

At this stage police have opened case dockets for murder and attempted murder for further investigations.

Speaking out strongly against the incident, Gauteng Premier David Makhura has condemned, in the strongest terms possible the senseless killings. He has called on the law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to book.
