President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation at 8pm on Sunday, 27 June 2021.
The National Coronavirus Coordinating Council (NCCC) will convene again on Sunday to process the report from the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structures, or NATJOINTS.
This will be followed by, the Presidential Command Council (PCC).
The PPC includes premiers, executive mayors and representatives of traditional leaderships.
A special Cabinet meeting will take place to process the recommendations from the NATJOINTS report.
New variant identified
The presidential address comes in the wake of news of a new variant identified in the country, which may call for stricter lockdown regulations to be put in place.
Acting minister of Health, briefed the media on Saturday, June 26, revealing that South Africa has identified the COVID-19 Delta strain.
This comes as the country’s battling a massive surge in new cases and reported deaths from the Coronavirus, called the third wave.
