Ratanda Random Drive-by Shootings Leaves One Dead, Many Injured

Tragic incidents of drive-by shootings early Sunday morning (September 1) in Ratanda has left a total of seven people injured and one unfortunately losing their life.

In the first incident, Ratanda Police received a complaint around midnight regarding a shooting at Muvusana Tavern, where five African males were critically injured.

They were rushed to Heidelberg Hospital in private vehicles, while another victim was found a few meters away and taken to the hospital by ambulance.

One of the victims, 18-year-old Kabelo Elton Mayisa, tragically succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at Heidelberg Hospital.

The other victims have been transferred to the Thelle Mogoerane hospital in Vosloorus for further treatment.

Police at the scene recovered 13 empty cartridges and 5 projectiles. The suspects, who were driving an unidentified vehicle, randomly opened fire and quickly fled the scene. The motive for the random shooting is still unknown, and no arrests have been made.

In a separate but related incident, 22-year-old Ayanda Mlambo was also shot during a drive-by at Akasia Street in Extension 23. According to eyewitnesses, the shooters were driving a white sedan heading towards Balfour on the R23 road.

Residents also reported hearing gunshots near the Ratanda Robots (CBD), but no injuries have been confirmed yet.
