Ratanda Shooting Leaves One Injured, Suspect Found Dead

An attempted murder case is under investigation following a shooting incident in Ratanda, Sedibeng.

According to a media statement issued by Ratanda SAPS, police responded swiftly to reports of gunfire on Monday at around 16:30. Upon arrival at Phakathi Street, community members informed officers that a man had been shot and rushed to the hospital by his family.

“The victim, a 23-year-old male residing in Phakathi Street, Ext. 23, was later found at Heidelberg Hospital with severe gunshot wounds. He sustained an entry wound on his back and an exit wound in his lower abdomen,” said Officer Moss Maluleke, Ratanda SAPS Spokesperson.

Despite being in pain, the victim was able to identify his attacker before providing limited details to the police.

Subsequent investigations led police to a farm in Rensburg, where they discovered the suspect’s body.

The suspect had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, with the firearm found nearby. It is believed that he took his own life after fleeing the crime scene.

Maluleke said Ratanda SAPS have opened a case of attempted murder, and investigations are ongoing.
