SAPS Arrests Soweto Flying Squad Officers for Alleged Bribery on Viral Video
Three members of the Soweto Flying Squad have been arrested following allegations of corruption after a video circulated on social media showing officers allegedly demanding money from a civilian.
The Management of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng confirmed that an internal disciplinary case has been instituted against the identified officers. Authorities launched an investigation on 01 February 2025 to trace the vehicle and identify the members involved.
“We take allegations of corruption seriously, and immediate action has been taken to investigate this matter,” said police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
Law enforcement has urged the victim who courageously took the footage to come forward and formally open a criminal case against the implicated officers to assist in the ongoing investigation.
“The public is encouraged to always report suspected corrupt activities by police officers on the anti-corruption hotline at 0800 701 701 or at the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID),” Nevhuhulwi added.
SAPS reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining integrity within the police force and ensuring that any wrongdoing is dealt with accordingly.
