SASSA Announces August 2025 Social Grant Payment Dates
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially released the social grant payment schedule for the month of August 2025, ensuring that millions of South Africans are informed and prepared ahead of time.
According to the statement issued on 28 July 2025, the grant disbursement will begin early in the new month, starting with:
- Older Persons Grants: Payments will commence on Tuesday, 05 August 2025. This includes recipients of the Old Age Grant. Those who also receive Child Support Grants or Foster Care Grants linked to their old age grant will be able to access those funds on the same day.
- Disability Grants: Beneficiaries who receive the Disability Grant can expect their payments on Wednesday, 06 August 2025, including any other grants connected to this account.
- All Other Social Grants: These will be paid from Thursday, 07 August 2025 onwards. This applies to Child Support Grants, Foster Care Grants, and other qualifying categories not linked to the above grants.
SASSA also reminded all beneficiaries that they have the freedom to choose any bank to open an account for receiving their grants.
This flexibility aims to give recipients more control over their money and how they collect it. Even if beneficiaries are using the SASSA/SAPO card, it continues to operate like a debit card, enabling cash withdrawals and payments at several retail partners including SPAR, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer, Pick n Pay, Cambridge, and others.
In a strong cautionary note, the agency urged recipients to protect their financial security by keeping their card and PIN safe and never sharing their PIN with anyone.
