Special COVID-19 Grant payments underway!

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced recently that they recorded a steady increase in the number of Special Covid-19 grant payments.

“To date a total of 6, 9 million applications were received nationally through all the different channels of applications. Of these a total of 3.2 million have been approved and all to be paid by the end of the month,” said the agency in a statement.

Beneficiaries who applied in May 2020 and were approved will receive their grant for a full six month period.

Since the special grant began, Gauteng SASSA has paid a total of 250 000 which will increase on a daily basis as the verification and approval process is ongoing.

By the end of June all those who had applied and been approved during May month will receive their first payment.

According to SASSA, from 18 to 22 June, SMS messages have been be sent to 95 241 approved beneficiaries to collect their Special COVID-19 Grant.

“Applicants are not required to apply each month as the payment for the following months will be automatically effected as soon as their financial status and details in SASSA’s possession are verified to confirm if they still qualify.”

Those who have not applied before and believe that they fall within the qualifying criteria are encouraged to apply through the following channels:

These applicants should be above the age of 18 years, unemployed without an income, not in receipt of a social grant, UIF and or NFSAS stipend as well and not in a state institution.
