ABC Motsepe National Play-Offs, promise Intense Football Action
Pietermaritzburg is set to host the highly anticipated 2022/23 season ABC Motsepe National Play-Offs from June 6 – 11.
The event will determine the two teams that will earn promotion to the prestigious Motsepe League Championship for the upcoming 2023/2024 season.
On Monday morning, May 29, the draw for the tournament took place at SAFA House, unveiling an exciting competition structure featuring three groups engaging in intense round-robin matches to contend for the esteemed ABC National championships.
The semi-final clashes are scheduled to take place at the renowned Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday, June 9.
The ultimate showdown will unfold on June 11, also at the Harry Gwala Stadium, where the finalists will battle for the championship title.
While the top two teams will secure promotion to the Motsepe League Championship, the remaining participants of the national playoffs will return to their respective provincial leagues, continuing their football journey on a regional level.
The group stage compositions have been established following the draw. Group A will witness fierce competition as Gauteng’s Dondol Stars find themselves pitted against Umsinga United from KwaZulu Natal, along with a yet-to-be-confirmed club from the Free State.
Group B showcases a coastal clash, featuring Eastern Cape’s Amavarara FC, Western Cape’s Young Bafana, and Northern Cape’s Upington City. The teams from these regions will go head-to-head, battling for dominance and aiming to secure their path to the championship.
Group C predominantly represents the Inland Provinces, presenting an exciting mix of talent. Orbit College from North West emerged as the leaders of the group during the draw.
They will face strong challenges from Mpumalanga’s Mlambo Royal Cubs and Limpopo’s Mpheni Home Defenders.
Football enthusiasts and supporters are eagerly anticipating the ABC Motsepe National Play-Offs, which promise to deliver thrilling encounters, showcase emerging talent, and determine the deserving teams that will rise to the prestigious Motsepe League Championship.
