The National Institute of Communicable Diseases, NICD, has announced that as of 31 March 2020, 46 new cases that have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the causative pathogen for #COVID-19.
The Health Minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize confirmed that the country’s death toll now stands at five. He updated the country in a press conference in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
The minister visited the Durban port to receive six South Africans from a Queen Mary cruise vessel. The vessel will then be allowed to replenish its critical supplies like food, fuel and leave the country’s waters. The vessel has been on South African shores since March 6, it’s voyage is from Australia to a England.
“The passengers will stay in quarantine in line with regulations. We thank port manager, captain and crew for their understanding,” said minister Mkhize.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa to 1 353. The total number of tests conducted around the country is 41 072.
