Water Contamination Alert for Emfuleni Residents

Residents in several areas of Emfuleni, including Sebokeng Zone 7, Palm Springs, Evaton, and surrounding neighborhoods, are being urged to boil their tap water before using it due to suspected contamination of the water supply system.

The Emfuleni Local Municipality announced on Thursday, March 28, that a collapsed sewer pipeline may be the cause of drinking water contamination in the affected areas.

A team has been dispatched to investigate the source and extent of the contamination.

As a precaution, consumers are advised to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or other consumption. This helps kill any bacteria or other organisms that could be present due to the contamination.

Though water quality assessments are ongoing, the municipality stated in an update on Monday that the water remains unsafe for consumption in Beverley Hills, Sonder Water, Graceland, Palm Springs, Lakeside, Zones 3, 6, 7, 8, Small Farms, Evaton, Evaton North and West despite some improved laboratory results.

Residents are asked to be patient and continue boiling water until further notice as technicians work to normalize the water supply system. The municipality apologized for the inconvenience and will provide additional updates as the situation develops.
