Woman caught with R100k worth of drugs

Ekurhuleni Metro Police arrested a female suspect in possession of narcotics with an estimated street value of R100,000 in Elandsfontein on May 11.

“At 17h00, EMPD officers accompanied by the man’s best friend (sniffer dogs), responded to a call in one of the well-known courier service company situated on Barbara Road, about a suspicious package destined to Netherlands,” said spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

When police arrived, the 28-year old female carrying a box of shoes alleging that she was a messenger residing in the City of Johannesburg, was handcuffed after sniffer dogs exposed four silver packets.

These concealed items made from duct tape contained heroin. The drugs were stashed inside a pair of navy blue lady sandals. The drugs uncovered inside the box of shoes were seized and the suspect is facing charges of ‘possession and possible dealing in illicit substance.’

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Specialized Task Team is investigating the origin of the camouflaged pair of shoes, since it was discovered that the lady suspect is a regular, at the courier service company.

The woman was marched to Bedfordview police station and will appear in court soon.
