Chiefs and Stellenbosch secure MTN 8 spots

On Sunday, August 13, the last two matches of the quarterfinals to the MTN8 took place where Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC have triumphed over their opponents.

Chiefs v Cape Town City

The first game between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City FC at the sold-out Athlone Stadium was a fierce competition for possession.
Both teams scored in the first half, with the hosts taking the lead with a goal from Marc Van Heerden.

Amakhosi leveled things with a strike from Ashley du Preez.

The second half continued the stalemate between the team, both sides failing to convert multiple scoring opportunities.

Chiefs got a breakthrough in the last minutes of the game when Edson Castillo executed an excellent volley to give the visitors something to celebrate and remember.

Stellenbosch v Supersport United

In the last installment of the quarterfinals saw Stellenbosch FC beat Supersport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The evening match was an end-to-end contest which continues through to extra time. The teams showed an equal amount of hunger for advancing to the semifinals.

However, Stellenbosch FC’s Andre de Jong received a pass from the corner and headed the ball behind the net in the 100th minute.

Final score: Supersport United 0 – 1 Stellenbosch FC

Semifinal fixtures set

Immediately after the last game, the MTN8 organizers quickly held a draw to see how teams will line up for the top four clash.

Kaizer Chiefs will face Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC take on Orlando Pirates. The fixture dates and venues will be announced soon.
