China and Russia Pledge Enhanced Cooperation as Xi Meets Russian PM

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Beijing on Tuesday, with both nations committing to deepen bilateral ties and coordinate development strategies.

During the meeting, Xi emphasized that China and Russia have successfully weathered a challenging international landscape throughout the year while pursuing higher-quality development objectives. He characterized the strengthening of bilateral relations as a strategic imperative for both countries.

The Chinese leader called for expanded cooperation across multiple sectors and improved alignment of the two nations’ development strategies.

The meeting underscores the continued partnership between Beijing and Moscow amid ongoing global tensions, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing what they describe as a comprehensive strategic relationship.

Both China and Russia are founding members of the BRICS bloc of countries and are joined by South Africa, India and Brazil (with many other countries joined later).
