City Manager leads women in uniform roadblock
The City of Ekurhuleni City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi joined women EMPD officials at a roadblock at an intersection between Tsakane and Kwa-Thema on Thursday, August 12, as a gesture of acknowledging the work done by women in uniform in the city and marking Women’s Month.
The roadblock, conducted by women only, yielded positive results with three hijacked vehicles impounded on the scene.
Over 70 traffic fines were issued during the roadblock amounted to R38 200.
Dr Imogen Mashazi encouraged the women in uniform in the city, including those in the EMPD and Disaster and Emergency Services, to take their jobs seriously as they are in the forefront of enforcing by-laws in the city.
“I am grateful to the team for recording such successes in less than two hours. This demonstrate their determination to fight lawlessness in the streets of our City,” said Dr Mashazi.
“We must further appreciate the role of these officers as frontliners amid the risk brought by Covid-19. Words cannot begin to define how grateful we are to these members and other front line staff in the City.”
In addition, 26 warrants of arrest were issued for failure to pay outstanding fines on the day amounted to R19 500.
