City of Ekurhuleni Launches Youth Month Water Conservation Competition
The City of Ekurhuleni has announced an exciting Youth Month competition focused on water conservation, encouraging young people to become active participants in securing the city’s water future.
In partnership with the East Rand Water Care Company (ERWAT), the initiative aims to engage high school learners in developing practical solutions for water conservation across their communities.
Competition Details
The competition is open to learners in Grades 8 through 12, challenging them to design and build structures that demonstrate practical water conservation methods. Participants must focus on solutions applicable to homes, schools, suburbs, or the broader City of Ekurhuleni.
Entries must include a 250-word explanation detailing how their proposed conservation structure would function in practice.
The competition operates under the theme “Save Water, Secure Tomorrow – Youth protecting our water resources for the future,” emphasizing the critical role young people play in environmental stewardship.
Councillor Thembi Msane, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Water and Sanitation, is spearheading the project, demonstrating the city’s commitment to involving youth in municipal water management strategies.
Participation Information
Students interested in participating have until June 30, 2025, to submit their entries. The competition represents an opportunity for young people to contribute meaningfully to water conservation efforts while developing practical problem-solving skills.
