Dignity restored for Dipaleseng learners

Sasol delivers personal hygiene packs to girl learners

Multinational fuel company, Sasol, has recently went out of it way to deliver a year-long supply of sanitary towels to female learners at Tshepeha Secondary School and Isifisosethu Secondary School.

This delivery, which takes place during Youth Month, is part of Sasols ongoing commitment of ensuring that young girls from underprivileged homes have personal hygiene products and can attend school uninterrupted.

The schools are located in Grootvlei and Balfour, both located at the Dipaleseng Local municipality.

In his welcoming address, Member of Mayoral Committee, Cllr. Ahmed-Nazir Carrim, thanked Sasol for the donation and its contribution to the people of Dipaleseng and affirmed that the relationship between Dipaleseng Local Municipality and Sasol will surely yield more beneficial results in the future.

“We hereby welcome all social labour plans and corporate social investment programs towards the improvement and betterment of our communities through our social partners such as Sasol,” he said.

A report by the Stellenbosch University (SU) Law Clinic once found that about 30% of girls in South Africa do not attend school when they are menstruating because they cannot afford sanitary products.

Many learners from Tshepeha and Isifisosethu come from homes impacted by the countrys challenging socio-economic conditions.

The donation is part of Sasols Dignity Box Drive, an initiative aimed at maintaining the dignity of less fortunate learners in Sasols fenceline communities.

This donation will reduce pressure on families for the monthly cost of sanitary towels. As a responsible corporate citizen that is committed to uplifting young people in society, Sasol has been donating dignitary packs to various schools over the years.

To ensure that male learners at the schools are not left out, male grooming products were also donated. The packs of essential products for male learners were collected through donations from Sasol employees.
