The National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has officially opened applications for Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) grant funding, inviting eligible organisations in the cultural and creative industries, as well as the arts, culture and heritage sector, to apply.
The funding call opened on Friday, 5 December 2025 at 12h00 and will close on 30 January 2026 at 17h00.
The Mzansi Golden Economy is a national strategy aimed at stimulating economic growth and job creation by positioning the arts, culture and heritage sector as a key contributor to South Africa’s economy. DSAC views the sector as the country’s “new gold”, with the potential to drive productivity, attract investment and improve global competitiveness through increased support for the creative economy.
Under this open call, funding will be made available for Cultural and Creative Industries Projects (CCIPs) as well as Touring Ventures Support. Successful projects must be implemented between May 2026 and February 2027.
DSAC has emphasized that the MGE grant funding programme is a competitive process. Applications will be assessed based on current needs and emerging challenges within the sector, the merit of each proposal, and the eligibility and completeness of submitted documentation. The department has stressed that no applicant is automatically entitled to funding.
Eligible arts, culture and heritage organisations, including non-profit organisations (NPOs) and private companies (Pty Ltd), are encouraged to apply online. The department will not accept hand-delivered or emailed applications.
DSAC has urged interested applicants to ensure that all requirements are met and that applications are submitted before the closing deadline.
