Employee Fatally Shot on Way to Work
Katlehong Police have launched an investigation following the fatal shooting of a man on his way to work early on Friday morning (November 1).
The victim, an African male employed by Albany Bakery in Germiston, was attacked by unknown assailants while driving to work.
The tragic incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. as the man, driving his Toyota Hilux single cab, was traveling between Mavimbela and Ncala sections in Katlehong. Police spokesperson, Captain Themba Mahlangu, confirmed the details of the attack.
“The victim was fatally shot multiple times, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into a palisade fence in Mavimbela Section,” he stated.
At the scene, detectives recovered 55 shell casings, with 44 of them identified as ammunition from an AK-47 rifle, while the remaining 11 were from a 9mm pistol.
According to Captain Mahlangu, the scale of the shooting indicates an alarming level of violence. “This was a ruthless and highly aggressive attack, and we are working diligently to bring those responsible to justice,” he added.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and pathologists, arrived at the scene and declared the victim dead. The body was transported to a government mortuary in Germiston for further examination.
As of now, police have not determined a motive for the killing, and the suspects remain at large.
