ICT training empowers Gauteng youth
Gauteng e-Government Empowers Youth Through ICT Training Program
In a significant milestone, 170 young individuals celebrated their graduation on September 22, at the University of Johannesburg.
These graduates owe their success to the collaborative efforts of the Gauteng Department of e-Government and the University of Johannesburg.
These promising young talents were part of the department’s ICT and SMME training program, spanning an entire year.
The program aimed to equip them with essential ICT skills essential in today’s digital landscape.
It had a dual focus, nurturing digital entrepreneurship among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and providing ICT training to unemployed youth aged between 14 and 35, through a comprehensive training and mentorship process.

Castro Mosina, the Deputy Director General (DDG) of Information, Communication, and Technology & Support Services (ICTSS) within the department, shared insights into the program’s success.
He noted that 103 graduates had successfully completed the Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMME) Development Program, designed to enhance their skills and capabilities within the entrepreneurial realm.
Furthermore, 67 graduates had accomplished the ICT Skills Development Fourth Industrial Training, which aimed at arming them with the skills required for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Mosina emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to training and uplifting the Gauteng youth, particularly those involved in small businesses, and introducing them to the vast opportunities in the ICT sector.
This initiative extended its reach to the townships of Gauteng, across all five regions: Westrand, Sedibeng, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, and Tshwane.
The objective was to ensure equal distribution of opportunities and promote fairness, aligning with the department’s mandate to combat unemployment.
Through their ICT and SMME training program, they have not only empowered these youth but have also taken significant steps towards reducing unemployment and fostering economic growth within Gauteng.
This achievement stands as a testament to the power of education and collaboration in shaping a brighter future for the youth of South Africa.
