IEC Hosts Workshops for 2026 Local Government Elections

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has announced a series of workshops designed to prepare political parties and independent candidates for the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The national workshop series, scheduled to take place across all nine provinces in November, aims to provide essential guidance to both registered political parties and prospective independent candidates on the electoral process.

Comprehensive Electoral Training

The workshops will cover a range of critical topics to ensure participants are fully equipped to contest the upcoming elections.

Key areas of focus include the requirements for contesting elections, procedures for registering a political party, and a detailed roadmap outlining the timeline and milestones leading up to the 2026 local government elections.

The Electoral Commission has emphasized the importance of these sessions for anyone planning to participate in the democratic process at the local government level.

Registration Details

Political parties, prospective parties, and independent candidates interested in attending the workshops are required to submit their contact details to the Electoral Commission. Registrations can be sent via email to opa@elections.org.za.

“The deadline for registration is 17:00 on Wednesday, 29 October 2025. The Commission is urging all interested parties and individuals to respond promptly to secure their place at the workshops,” IEC said in a statement.
