Justice served as car guard killer gets ten year sentence
The Westgate Magistrate Court has sentenced Philani Mkhulisa (30) to 10 years imprisonment on Tuesday, October 4. The court also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
This is after Mkhulisa brutally assaulted a 25 year old car guard at corner Rissik and Pritchard Street in the Joburg CBD on the 7 of August 2018.
“He parked his car and went to buy food at Macdonalds; when he comes back he realized that two bags are missing containing his toiletries, a laptop, ID book and his Matric certificate,” explained police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele.
This is when Mkhulisa turned to the car guard and beat him up with his fists mercilessly.
He then drove off and paramedics were called and certified the victim dead on the scene.
Fortunately, Mkhulisa’s vehicle was captured by CCTV cameras and police went to his address but was not found.
He handed himself over to the police a few days later.
“The conviction is a result of a quality investigation done by Sergeant Matshepo Twala of Johannesburg Central Detectives. We hope this sentence will scare away the community from taking the law into their own hands when crime is committed,” Captain Mbele said.
