Man caught with stolen cables in Balfour
Police in Balfour (Dipaleseng) arrested a 36 year old man suspected of being in possession of stolen copper cables in Siyathemba township on Monday, March 13.
According to reports, Balfour SAPS members received information about two male individuals in possession of suspected stolen copper cables around midday.
The police promptly followed up on the tip and spotted two suspicious men walking along the street in the Emabhunwini area in Siyathemba.
Upon approaching the suspects, they dropped their bags and fled on foot.
The police managed to apprehend one of the suspects while the other managed to evade arrest.
Upon searching the bags, the police discovered copper cables valued at approximately R 50 000.
The arrested suspect was charged with being in possession of suspected stolen copper cables and was expected to appear in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the members for their vigilance, stating: “We commend our members for their dedication and diligence in bringing these criminals to book. This is a clear indication of our commitment to combating crime in all its forms and shapes.”
