Police Launch Search for Man Wanted in Connection with Fatal Stabbing
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Ratanda has issued an urgent appeal for public assistance in locating a murder suspect who has been evading authorities for over a year.
Police are searching for Mvulane Mkhumbeni, commonly known as “Pompimpi,” an African male in his early 30s. He is wanted in connection with a murder that occurred on November 18, 2023, at a tavern in Tokolohong Phase.
According to police reports, a fight broke out at the establishment, during which Sifiso Ronald Malakwane, 27, was stabbed twice in the neck. The victim was transported to Heidelberg Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Mkhumbeni has been on the run since the incident, prompting Ratanda police to intensify their search efforts. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.
“We appeal to the community to assist us in bringing this suspect to justice,” said spokesperson Constable Moss Maluleke. “However, we advise members of the public not to attempt to apprehend the suspect themselves, as he may be dangerous.”
Those with information are encouraged to contact the Ratanda police station at 016-343-7014 or the Ratanda Detectives unit at 079-692-4853.
The investigation is ongoing.
